What you will learn in this activity:

Print the two activity pages from this investigation. Use them with your Mathomat to construct a drawing of a 30° angle. In the first activity Michelle Du Toit shows how to use the Arcbuilder in Mathomat for this task. In the second activity the TGT is used.

Angle is a complex idea in geometry. Angles have a geometric structure, being two rays meeting at a point with an amount of opening between the rays. We are learning to represent that geometric structure in different ways in this activity with different tools within Mathomat. It is important to be able to visualise the size (magnitude) of the angles we are drawing. We do this by imagining that one ray is rotated about its vertex (the point where the rays meet) until it lies directly above the second ray in the angle. the amount of turning (the amount of openness between the rays) is the size of the angle. This size is measured in different units, such as degrees and radians.

Understanding angles, how to recognise them in the world around us, and how to represent them in many different ways using Mathomat is important, a key part of doing drawing and design work.
